Taking a Break from January

January is always my least favourite month but this year I was lucky enough to receive a stay at Seaham Hall Hotel, County Durham, for Christmas from my wonderful boyfriend. So halfway through January we took a break and got to spend a couple of days relaxing in luxury.

We stayed in one of their Junior Suites; each of their rooms is individually decorated and ours was absolutely beautiful. I was in love with the décor and it was so big with an enormous bed. The room even had an entrance hall, beautifully decorated also, and a lovely, spacious, bathroom with twin sinks. Every detail had been thought of; like the little touches on the décor that really added to the room, complimentary Elemis toiletries in the bathroom, and water and Elemis pillow spray placed on our bedside while we out for our evening meal. It was definitely the best hotel room I’ve stayed in and I wish I’d got to spend more time in it.

Our stay included access to The Serenity Spa and a 45 minute treatment. The spa is enormous with all kinds of facilities including a pool, outdoor hot tubs, steam room, plunge pools and saunas. I really enjoyed the hydrotherapy pool and Himalayan salt sauna. The spa is designed to make it as relaxing and luxurious as possible; you enter from the hotel via a dramatic underground tunnel and into a beautiful, large entrance hall before going into the changing rooms where you’re provided with robes, slippers and towels. Water is available in the pool and they often come round with trays of fruit to snack on. I went for a facial as my treatment while Andrew had a massage. This was really relaxing and included a shoulder and scalp massage and my skin felt amazing afterwards. I really liked how they asked about any concerns I had with my skin and tailored the products they used, which they then recommended to me after the treatment. We were then taken to a lounge and given complimentary sorbets and drinks, it was so nice to have more time to relax as I was feeling really sleepy after my facial.

We had our evening meal in the hotel’s Byron restaurant. This too is decorated really luxuriously and we were sat in a gorgeous little booth. They brought us appetizers before our starters which was a really lovely touch I wasn’t expecting. The menu is fairly small but uses seasonal, local ingredients which I really appreciated. I had crab and radish for starters, which was gorgeous, and then we chose the “steak for two” for our main course. This I was a little disappointed with as it meant you both had to prefer your steak to be cooked the same way and you basically get half a steak each with a couple slices of onion. It was delicious, and luckily Andrew and I both like our steak the same way, but when I order a steak I want a steak, but perhaps that’s just me being greedy. I then went for the chocolate dessert which was really nice before finishing our night with cocktails in the bar.

We both really enjoyed our time at Seaham Hall, I loved all the little touches that made it such a luxury experience and would absolutely love to go back.
